UNIFA ("National Union of French Furniture Industries"), a union (Book IV of the Labor Code) created in 1960 by professionals for professionals, is today the organization that is the most representative of the furniture sector. It is a forum of thought and exchange for companies of all sizes that produce furniture of every style and in every material, for the residential and business markets. Today it boasts 700 members. Its mission is to support and encourage the growth of French furniture companies. It represents and defends the entire profession at the national and international level. Involvement with French and European Authorities UNIFA is a member of MEDEF ("Movement of Entrepreneurs of France") and through this organization it participates at the highest levels of government. UNIFA participated in the creation of CLIMO ("Liaison Committee for Labor-Intensive Industries") in order to expand its ability to exert its influence on ministries and government representatives. CLIMO brings together approximately 15 labor-intensive industries (including UNIFA), which represent one million workers and 53,000 companies. UNIFA is a member of GFI ("Group of Industrial Federations"), which includes 13 federations and represents 85% of French industry. It gives UNIFA the opportunity to meet with government representatives, such as Francis Mer who was one of its leaders before he was named Minister of the Economy. GFI makes it possible to have discussions outside of negotiations, which are therefore strictly related to the profession.. Furthermore, UNIFA belongs to the CPCI - the "Permanent Commission for Consultation with Industry". This commission, organized into working groups (labor, exports, etc.), regularly meets with ministers. At the European level, UNIFA is a member of the EFF European Furniture Federation an institution that represents the sector in dealings with various European entities (Commissions, Council, Parliament, etc.). It also belongs to FEMB "European Federation of Office Furniture" - and the EBIA European Bedding Industries Association. |
